🚫 Text Censor
Replace specified sensitive words in your text with asterisks. Redact passwords, emails, phone numbers, profanity, or any terms you choose — all in your browser, no upload, instant results.
About the Text Censor
This text censor runs entirely in your browser. Enter your text in the input box, list the words you want redacted in the words box (one per line or comma-separated), and click Censor Text. Each occurrence of a listed word will be replaced with asterisks of the same length. Perfect for masking passwords, emails, phone numbers, profanity, or any sensitive terms before sharing content. Nothing is uploaded — the censoring happens instantly with JavaScript on your device.
How it works
- Word list parsing — The words box is split by newlines and commas, with whitespace trimmed and empty entries removed.
- Escape and match — Each sensitive word is escaped for use in a regular expression, then matched case-insensitively as a whole word in the input text.
- Replacement — Each match is replaced by asterisks (
*) of the same character length, preserving the overall text structure.
How to use the censor
- Paste or type your text in the input box.
- List the words to censor in the words box — one per line or separated by commas.
- Click Censor Text to redact them.
- The censored result appears in the output box.
- Click Copy to copy the result, or Clear to start over.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tool upload my text? No. All censoring happens locally in your browser. Your text and word list never leave your device.
Is the matching case-sensitive? No. Matching is case-insensitive, so "Password" and "password" are both redacted if "password" is listed.
Does it match partial words? No. Only whole-word matches are redacted. For example, listing "ass" will not redact "class" or "pass".
Can I censor multi-word phrases? Yes. Enter phrases like "top secret" on a single line and they will be redacted as a unit.
